THE STORY
On December 4, 2019, Spindrift 2, a 40-meter trimaran skippered by Yann Guichard, began a Jules Verne Trophy attempt from Ushant, France. After 23 hours, a major rudder malfunction forced the crew to abandon the record attempt and return to La Trinité-sur-Mer, France. The crew was unharmed, but the boat was deemed unsafe for continued high-speed sailing.
