THE STORY
During the 2013 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers traded All-Star guard Jrue Holiday to New Orleans in a deal that brought Philadelphia the draft rights to No. 6 pick Nerlens Noel and a future first-round pick. Philadelphia also selected Michael Carter-Williams with the 11th pick. Noel missed his entire rookie season while recovering from a knee injury. Carter-Williams won Rookie of the Year but was traded during his second NBA season as Philadelphia continued its long-term rebuild.
WHY IT MATTERS
The moves became part of the early "Process" era in Philadelphia and remain useful examples for debating the risks and potential rewards of accumulating young players and future draft assets during a rebuild.
