THE STORY
On November 6, 2011, during the first leg of the Volvo Ocean Race from Alicante, Spain, to Cape Town, South Africa, Team Sanya sustained significant hull damage approximately 30 nautical miles southeast of Motril, Spain. The crew, led by skipper Mike Sanderson, reported water ingress in the bow area due to delamination of the hull's outer skin.
