THE STORY

On August 30, 1990, the Boston Red Sox traded minor league third baseman Jeff Bagwell to the Houston Astros for veteran relief pitcher Larry Andersen. Bagwell, who had been named the Eastern League Most Valuable Player that season, went on to have a Hall of Fame career with the Astros, while Andersen contributed to the Red Sox's 1990 playoff run but left after the season.

WHY IT MATTERS

This trade is often cited as one of the most lopsided in baseball history, as Bagwell became a key player for the Astros, while Andersen's impact was short-lived.
