THE STORY
On January 27, 1982, the Philadelphia Phillies traded shortstop Larry Bowa and minor league infielder Ryne Sandberg to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for shortstop Iván DeJesús. Sandberg, who had debuted with the Phillies in 1981, went on to become a Hall of Fame second baseman with the Cubs. DeJesús played three seasons with the Phillies, contributing to their 1983 World Series appearance. This trade is often cited as one of the most lopsided in baseball history.
