On June 16, 1983, at Madison Square Garden, boxer Luis Resto faced Billy Collins Jr. in a televised bout. Resto's trainer, Carlos "Panama" Lewis, illegally removed padding from Resto's gloves and soaked his hand wraps in plaster of Paris, resulting in a brutal 10-round unanimous decision victory for Resto. The New York State Boxing Commission's investigation led to the revocation of Lewis's license and a suspension for Resto, who never fought again. Both were later convicted of assault and conspiracy, serving prison sentences for their actions.
