THE STORY

In July 2022, Botswana's 800m runner Nijel Amos was provisionally suspended after testing positive for GW1516, a prohibited metabolic modulator, during an out-of-competition test on June 4, 2022. This suspension occurred just days before the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where Amos was scheduled to compete. The Athletics Integrity Unit announced the suspension on July 12, 2022, preventing Amos from participating in the 800m heats on July 20, 2022.
