THE STORY
In February 1992, former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson was convicted of raping 18-year-old Desiree Washington, a contestant in the Miss Black America pageant, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Tyson was sentenced to six years in prison and served approximately three years before his release in March 1995. This conviction significantly impacted Tyson's boxing career and public image.
