In October 2007, American sprinter Marion Jones admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs before the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where she won five medals. She pleaded guilty to lying to federal agents about her steroid use, leading to the forfeiture of her Olympic medals and a two-year ban from competition.
