On October 26, 1951, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, 28-year-old Rocky Marciano faced 37-year-old Joe Louis in a 10-round heavyweight boxing match. Marciano won by technical knockout in the eighth round, sending Louis through the ropes and onto the ring apron. This victory marked the end of Louis's boxing career, as he announced his retirement in February 1952. Marciano would go on to become the heavyweight champion in 1952.
