THE STORY
On October 25, 1964, during a game at San Francisco's Kezar Stadium, Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jim Marshall recovered a fumble by 49ers quarterback George Mira. Marshall ran 66 yards into his own end zone, believing he had scored a touchdown. In celebration, he threw the ball out of bounds, resulting in a safety for the 49ers.
