On April 30, 2005, at Madison Square Garden, James Toney defeated John Ruiz by unanimous decision to claim the WBA heavyweight title. Post-fight testing revealed the anabolic steroid nandrolone in Toney's system, leading the New York State Athletic Commission to change the bout's result to a no-decision, suspend Toney for 90 days, and fine him $10,000.
