THE STORY
In June 2000, the New York Islanders traded goaltender Roberto Luongo and center Olli Jokinen to the Florida Panthers in exchange for wingers Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha. This decision was made to accommodate the selection of goaltender Rick DiPietro with the first overall pick in the 2000 NHL Draft. Luongo and Jokinen would later become key players for the Panthers, while the Islanders' return did not yield similar success.
