THE STORY
On May 3, 2008, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, Eight Belles, a three-year-old filly, finished second in the 134th Kentucky Derby. Shortly after the race, she collapsed due to compound fractures in both front ankles and was euthanized on the track. (en.wikipedia.org)
