In the final round of the 1970 Open Championship at St Andrews, Scotland, Doug Sanders led Jack Nicklaus by one stroke heading to the 72nd hole. After a lengthy drive on the short par-4, Sanders took four shots from just 74 yards and missed a downhill putt for par from three feet, allowing Nicklaus to tie the score at 283.
