THE STORY
On October 31, 2017, during the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, the yacht Greenings (CV24) ran aground on the western side of Cape Peninsula, South Africa, shortly after departing Cape Town. The 18 crew members were safely evacuated, and the yacht was abandoned after being unable to free it. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch attributed the grounding to insufficient planning.
