THE STORY
In the 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, the yacht Business Post Naiad capsized in severe storm conditions on December 27, 1998. Two crew members, Bruce Guy and Phillip Skeggs, perished; Guy suffered a heart attack during the capsize, and Skeggs drowned after being unable to free himself from his safety harness. The remaining crew were rescued after a 12-hour wait. This incident highlighted critical issues in storm preparedness and rescue coordination during offshore races.
