THE STORY
On June 2, 2010, Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga retired 26 consecutive batters against the Cleveland Indians. With two outs in the ninth inning, a ground ball to first baseman Miguel Cabrera was thrown to Galarraga, who stepped on first base before the runner arrived. Umpire Jim Joyce called the runner safe, denying Galarraga a perfect game. Joyce later admitted his mistake, stating, "I just cost that kid a perfect game." (cbsnews.com)
