THE STORY
In July 2015, the Anaheim Ducks acquired defenseman Kevin Bieksa from the Vancouver Canucks and signed him to a two-year, $8 million extension with a full no-movement clause through the 2017–18 season. This contractual clause constrained the Ducks' roster protections during the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft, resulting in defenseman Clayton Stoner being exposed and subsequently selected by the Vegas Golden Knights, reducing Anaheim's defensive depth for that season.
WHY IT MATTERS
