During the 1972 Munich Olympics, the U.S. men's basketball team faced the Soviet Union in the gold medal game. In the final seconds, the game was halted multiple times to adjust the clock, leading to confusion. The Soviet Union scored the decisive basket after the clock was reset to three seconds, resulting in a 51–50 victory. The U.S. team protested the decision and refused to accept their silver medals.
